Philadelphia gun crime updates: Wounded off-duty police officer among latest victims

An off-duty police officer and another woman were wounded in an overnight shooting incident in Northeast Philadelphia. A man was shot to death in North Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon.

According to NBC10: The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. as Candela’s bar in the Crescentville section of Northeast Philadelphia was closing.  Gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and the guards and that’s when the officer was shot in the foot. A 23-year-old woman was also hit in the leg. (A video report follows their advertisement below:)

Philly.com reports: As the officer headed to a hospital in a private vehicles, the two men involved in the dispute with the guard went to a parked SUV, retrieved a weapon and sprayed the bar with at least a dozen bullets. According to CBS3: The officer is in stable condition at Temple University Hospital, but he did suffer significant foot damage and may have to undergo surgery. The injured woman is listed in good condition at the Albert Einstein Medical Center.

CBS3 is also reporting: Police are investigating a homicide in North Philadelphia that happened Wednesday afternoon. A male victim was shot once in the chest and once in the arm and was transported to Temple University Hospital by private vehicle.

Philly.com followed up on the story of a young man who accidentally shot himself in the head during a webcam chat early Wednesday.

NBC10 is reporting; The man who allegedly shot a 12-year-old girl on Memorial Day — in Darby Borough, just outside of Philadelphia — is now in police custody.
