Babies in the crossfire

A group of children joined other neighbors and shopkeepers watching over the crime scene after a 35-year-old man was shot the near the intersection of 16th Street and 67th Avenue in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia early Tuesday evening. Police reported that one suspect was in custody after a gun battle at that location — and that the victim was taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

A few hours later, a 19-year man was shot in the head near 29th and Huntingdon Streets in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city, and was reported to be in extremely critical condition at Temple University Hospital. A two-year-old child that he was holding in his arms at the time was also wounded by gunfire, but reported to be recovering in stable condition.

At another incident less than 12 hours later, a one-year-old girl escaped without injury when a man in the same car was shot multiple times in North Philadelphia.

Joe Kaczmarek photographed both Tuesday night scenes for GunCrisis.org.
