#GunCrisis Solution of the Day: Fix the National Background Check System

Although many people with mental health problems are not allowed to purchase firearms under the law, too often they are able to buy guns due to our incomplete national background check system. This was case in 2007, when Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people at Virginia Tech with weapons he should not have been allowed to obtain.

Five years after the worst mass shooting in American history, little has been done to fix the national background check system that failed our country then. The interactive map below, put together by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, displays the rate at which each state submits mental health records to the national database.
