#GunCrisis Solution of the Day: Protect Children

In 2009, the Children’s Defense Fund published “Protect Children Not Guns,” reporting that since 1979, gun violence had ended the lives of 107,603 children and teens in America, enough to fill more than 4,000 classrooms. The report includes this map of children killed in each state:

The report also includes a detailed six-step action plan explaining how you can protect children and teens from gun violence. Here is the outline:
1. Advocate and Support Common-Sense Gun Safety Measures
2. Remove Guns from Your Home
3. Mobilize Support in Your Community to Protect Children from Gun Violence
4. Stress Nonviolent Values and Conflict Resolution
5. Refuse to Buy or Use Products for Children and Teens That Glamorize Violence
6. Provide Children and Teens Positive Alternatives to the Streets Where They Can Feel Safe and Protected
