Prominent Bankruptcy Attorney Fred Barakat was shot multiple times late Monday night during a home invasion robbery at his Pennsbury home, state police said.
According to state Trooper Corey S. Monthei of the Avondale barracks, police were called to Barakat’s home in the 300 block of Hillendale Road shortly after 6:15 p.m.
Troopers found the victim, 63-year-old Fred Barakat, with gunshot wounds and possibly other injures after a struggle with the intruders, according to police.
According to police, Barakat was taken by ambulance to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment of his injuries which are reported to not be life-threatening.
Police said three to four suspects were involved in the robbery. At least two of those suspects were wearing masks.
The suspects fled in a white or cream-colored vehicle, possibly a Mitsubishi Diamante, according to police.One suspect, who police say was not wearing a mask is described as a white man about 30 to 40 years old. He has short, blonde hair and stands about 6 feet tall.
During the investigation state police vehicles arrived and left from a taped-off driveway that led to Barakat’s home about 300 yards off the main road.
Fire vehicles used light towers to illuminate the area as detectives continued to investigate into early Tuesday morning under the clear night sky and damp weather.
According to Barakat’s website, he has practiced law in Pennsylvania for 35 years and in Delaware for the past 16 years, and 90 percent of his practice is bankruptcy law.
Also according to his website, Barakat has offices serving Chester and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania and New Castle County in Delaware.
