Despite heroic public, private and individual efforts to contain it, the epidemic of homicide by gunfire in Philadelphia persists.

In Chicago, a new initiative is asking everyone participate in a discussion to solve their problems using the #WhatIfChicago hashtag across social media.

We have our own set of challenges and resources here in Philadelphia, and the GunCrisis Reporting Project is proposing that we tag our local discussion of gun violence solutions:

When you post to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Flickr or Instagram, just be sure to include the #phillypeaceplan hashtag and we will do our best to track it down.

If this catches on, we will compile and re-share results as they come in. If it takes off, we could even move this project to a home of it’s own. If we find supporters, maybe we could even offer rewards for the best ideas.

In any case, we have a new hashtag to ask each other for help: #phillypeaceplan.

Tagging #rip and #smh are not enough, but now we can collaborate on the: #phillypeaceplan.

Let’s get to work: Share your ideas for reducing gun violence across social media with the hashtag: #phillypeaceplan.
