Babysitter killed by stray bullet from gun battle Tuesday night in West Philadelphia

Police investigate the crime scene on Aberdeen Street in the Wynnefield Heights section of West Philadelphia Tuesday night after a stray bullet claimed the life of a young woman on the same block where a man was critically wounded by gunfire on Sunday. According to police, the 19-year-old woman was shot in the head by one of two men who were engaged in a running gunfight. The woman, who was babysitting several children, collapsed just inside the doorway of the house and was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:19 p.m.

Women wept in the street as a crowd of loved ones and neighbors gathered on the edges of the crime scene.

According to NBC10, police said the shooter fled in a white vehicle. Police told philly.com that the man targeted in the shooting was not injured.

In a separate incident a few hours later, an unidentified young man or teen was pronounced dead after he was found with multiple gunshot wounds at 59th Street and Elmwood Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia.

On Tuesday afternoon, two women were shot in a home on West Diamond Street in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city. A 22-year-old was reported in critical condition with a neck wound and 24-year-old was reported stable with multiple gunshot wounds.
