Police said the gunman fired at least nine shots into the victims’ minivan, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, but that a nine-year-old girl who was also inside was not struck.

The boy was reported in critical but stable condition Monday night at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and his father was reported critical but stable at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Police said they believe that the boy’s father was the intended target, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

According to 6ABC, medics were called to the scene at about 7:20 p.m. and found the father shot in the back and grazed in the head while his son suffered a gunshot to the stomach.

Police believe this shooting may be connected to a murder on December 1, according to a report from NBC10.

Police are searching for the suspect who they say was wearing a black hoodie and was last seen headed west on Daly Terrace, according to CBS3.
