Webster, NY, residents return to the shooting and fire scene; memorial services continue

A wreath of  American flags marks the scene Wednesday where a gunman shot four firefighters, killing two, in Webster, NY, two days earlier.

Residents were permitted to return to see what little remained of their homes on Wednesday, according to The New York Times.

Supporters gathered to sing Amazing Grace in the village Wednesday night, during a vigil for the fallen firefighters, Mike Chiapperini, 43, and Tomasz Kaczowka, 19, according to democratandchronicle.com, while the condition of the two wounded men was upgraded.

CNN has video of the the solemn transfer of one body to a funeral home.

The wounded men were thankful for the outpouring of support, according to the Associated Press, and asked that acts of kindness be directed to others, including those who lost homes in the blaze.

Meanwhile, federal agents say they’ve traced the buyer and seller of weapons used in the ambush shooting, according to poststar.com but they can’t release those details because the investigation is ongoing.
