Police officer shot in the face after traffic stop in Wilmington

Wilmington Police Officer ShotPolice said that officer was wounded about 3:50 p.m. and taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was preparing to undergo surgery, according to delawareonline.com, adding that the officer’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The wounded officer is a three year veteran of the force, according to 6ABCCBS3 reported that the incident happened along the 1200 block of Peach Street, and that two suspects were in police custody.

Investigators identified the wounded officer as 34-year-old officer Justin Wilkers, according to NBC10, adding that fellow officers said he was in serious but stable condition.
