A 24-year-old man was shot once in the lower back just after midnight on the 200 block of West Somerville Avenue in the Olney section of Philadelphia. Tom Kelly IV covered the scene for the Gun Crisis Reporting Project.
The victim was rushed to Einstein Medical Center, where police reported he was in critical but stable condition and headed for surgery. A small bag was recovered at the scene, along with a single semi-automatic .357 caliber shell casing. Detectives were investigating.
