A Philadelphia Police officer looks into a car where police say they found an unattended 6-year-old child and a handgun Wednesday night in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Photographs for the Gun Crisis Reporting Project by Joseph Kaczmarek.
Police were responding to a 911 call for a report of gunshots in the area of East Clearfield and Boudinot Streets at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday when they noticed the child in the front seat of a Buick with no adults nearby.
According to police, they opened the unlocked car door and found a loaded .44 magnum revolver lying on the front seat floor.
Two neighborhood children — who were not involved in the incident — watch the police investigation from a nearby stoop as a small crowd of onlookers gathers around the crime scene.
