Teen killed by robber on Delaware County street, others escape injury

A 19-year-old man was shot at least once as he and four others were walking in the 500 block of Cedar Avenue in Darby Borough, Pa., late Sunday night. DarbyHomicide04aThe teens had just finished playing basketball at a local park when a man with a gun approached them and announced the robbery.

The group scattered as the gunman fired and struck a 19-year-old who wasDarbyHomicide08a later pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, according to Darby Police Chief Robert Smythe.

Smythe said that the wounded teen ran down Coventry Avenue and knocked on the door of a home before collapsing. A house on Cedar Avenue was also struck by multiple bullets, but Smythe said that none penetrated into home, most striking an exterior brick wall after traveling through a screened in front porch.
