Deputies from the Chester County Sheriffs Department participate in an “active shooter” drill last weekend inside the Chester County Justice Center in West Chester Borough, Pa. Photographs for the Gun Crisis Reporting Project by Tom Kelly IV.
A Chester County Detective also took part in the scenario-based training, which included potential shooters in a courtroom, bomb threats and hostages being taken, according to a report at dailylocal.com.
Paris Washington, a Staff Inspector with the Philadelphia Sheriffs Department led the training, with the assistance of his wife Carol, a police officer in the 22nd district in Philadelphia.
The training was organized in response to last February’s shooting at the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware, just across the state line.
Three people were killed, including the gunman, and two police officers were wounded during the incident in the security screening area inside the courthouse.
