Members of the Philadelphia Police Department and SEPTA Transit Police joined family members Thursday night for a memorial in memory of Officer John Pawlowski at North Broad Street and West Olney Avenue, where he was slain by a gunman five years ago last week. (The service was delayed by recent weather.)
According to phillyheroes.org, Officer Pawlowski was responding to a disturbance when a gunman opened fire through the pocket of his coat. Pawlowski is survived by his wife, child, three brothers, a sister, and his father.
